Container Gardening

Every yard or balcony even the smallest ones can be used to grow some vegetables or a garden of flowers in containers. The most important thing is to choose the right container but almost everything can be used for container gardening. Examples are hanging baskets, large flowerpots or wooden barrels. But containers that have narrow openings should be avoided.

When you consider to start container gardening you should get information not only about the right containers but which potting mix would be the best, how to plant your container garden and which plants and actually right for containers.

Container plants need as much sunlight as other kind of plants ranging from 5 hours to more. For example tomatoes need more sun than leafy vegetables such as cabbage. You should also fertilize your containers frequently and try to use a balanced mix of different needed elements. It is always a good idea to check the labels of the products. Annuals that should be grown in containers also need daily watering.

Plastic is not the right material for containers, they dry out more easily. The problem with wooden containers is that they rot pretty quickly. But other pots deffinitely need several drainage holes.

Container gardening is easy to follow as long as you remember that the more plants there are the bigger the pots should be.
