have i harmed my eucalyptus tree? :)

greetings! i topped off, trimmed, a 10 ft., small thin trunk, long leaf eucalyptus tree hoping to fatten it up a bit because it only had two thin branches on top! so far, there is new growth at the bottom of the trunk but bare on the top. have i killed it or is there still hope for it? :)
thank you so much.

corinne.
