can you use weed killer in garden?

I am starting a new garden and I have never used weed killer on my garden.I always pull the weeds.This year I am using garden fabric.I know this will keep most of the weeds out.Should I spray the garden with weed killer and if so what kind of spray do I use that won't hurt my vegtables?
